Lieutenant Colonel Francis Terret (aka Tirwhit) served as a captain for a company in the army of the James Marquis of Hamilton [SSNE 1348] destined for Swedish service in June 1630. He was permitted to recruit for his company in Lincoln, Hertford, Gloucester and Middlesex. Terret was promoted while in Germany and was certainly in the field in 1632 with Duke William of Saxe-Wismar's army. Along with his comrades Major John Pawlett and Captain Edward Fielding, Terret was captured by Croats on 1 November 1632
