James Kinnaird was noted as a burgess of Gothenburg from 1621, when the town received its privileges. He formed part of an extensive Scottish mercantile community settled there. There was another James Kinnaird [SSNE 1124] who also settled in Gothenburg around this time (1628?) - they may have been the same person. One of these men subsequently became a master of the mint.
