James Lenteren and a relative of his, David [SSNE 6563], had a ship built for them in Norway in the 1590s. This was just when King Christian IV of Denmark-Norway had passed a law prohibiting foreigners from building ships in Norway and then taking them out of the country. However, through various supplications to the Crown the two Lenterens received special permission from the king to complete and remove their vessel and were indeed spared a trial in March 1599
