BOSWELL, KAZIMIERZ [SSNE 6449]
Text source
Kazimierz Boswell (Bosuel/Bazalski) was of Scottish descent, but born in Prussia. Since 1655 he served as a companion (towarzysz) in the cossack style cavalry unit of Kazimierz Piaseczynski. During that year he was promoted to standard-bearer, and between 1656-1660 he gained the rank of lieutenant (porucznik) and was second in command of the formation. He fought against the Swedes in Denmark and then against the Muscovites during the 1660/61 campaign. In 1662 he became a captain in Feliks Potocki’s dragoons regiment. In the same year, for great valour in the war against Sweden, he received ‘indygenet’ (i.e. he became a Polish noble) and took the Polish surname Bazalski.B. Treliska, ed.
