Sir Patrick Drummond was appointed as Conservator for the seventeen provinces of Belgium by James VI. This appointment was reconfirmed by Charles I on 20 June 1625 and again in 1633 under the signet of Scotland at Oxford in 1644. His name appears in the Role of Delinquents of 1641. Finally, he was reappointed by Charles II on 10 September 1660 with strict orders to all merchants, captains and others to respect his office and pay all fees and taxes due, or ignore them at their peril.
