Catherine Forbes was born in Westminster in England on 18 March 1647 while her father, Alexander 10/11th Lord Forbes [SSNE 1616] was a prisoner there. She would have moved to Sweden with her father in 1649. Her mother was Elizabeth Forbes of Rires [SSNE 6304].
