Baron Carl Stuart was born in Stockholm in 1690. He joined the Livgard as an ensign on 17 June 1708 but was captured at Poltava the following year. He returned home to Sweden in 1722 where he received a major's commission in 1725. Stuart married Maria Reusner in 1730 an possibly took up service with the Swedish East India Company. He certainly died in Batavia in 1742.
