Rutger Maclean was the son of David Maclean [SSNE 3023] and his wife Eleonora Elisabet von Ascheberg. He was baptised at Christina church on 28 October 1688. He served as a volunteer in the Svenska Livregiment till fot in 1703, where he became an NCO the same year. He was promoted to ensign in the Liv Dragon regiment in 1708, and was captured at Poltava in 1709. Maclean came back to Sweden in 1722 and was awarded the rank of captain and quartermaster in the Bohuslän Dragoons. He achieved the rank of colonel in March 1743 and died in 1748. He married Wilhelmina Eleonora Coijet in 1740. His siblings included Magdalena Eleonora [SSNE 6953], Johan Philip [SSNE 6954], Johan Adolph [SSNE 6095], Jacob Ludwig [SSNE 6956], and Marianna [SSNE 6957]. A portrait of Rutger Maclean hangs at Brunneby Manor, Östergötland.
