Baron James Hamilton (1664-1726) was the son of Baron Malcolm Hamilton of Hageby and Christina Maclean, daughter of Baron John Maclean of Gothenburg. In 1683 he was recruited and served first as sergeant with the Alfsborg regiment, a faltvabel by 1687 and by 1691 he was an ensign. James Hamilton is still listed on Swedish muster-rolls until 1696, although it is known that he returned to Ireland where he probably served in the Enniskillen regiment of his kinsman Gustavus Hamilton, Governor of Enniskillen. He died unmarried in Ireland.
