Robert Skene was the son of Robert Skene (a former burgess of Aberdeen who had settled in Belhelvie by 1572) of the Mill of Potterton and his first wife Isobel Forbes, daughter of Davie Aedie, burgess of Aberdeen. One of his brothers, David Skene [SSNE 1034], had already migrated to Poland and become a burgess of Posen in 1586. Robert followed suit in 1593 and became a burgess of Posen in 1593. They were both sons of Robert Skene of Belhelvie, Aberdeenshire.
