In 1603 a James Thomson, citizen and merchant of Cracow, protested against his arrest by Captain Robert Demster. Demster, who claimed to be working on behalf of the Polish king, had also summoned five other Scottish merchants in Cracow to appear before him and explain by what rights they were trading there. They were all forbidden from leaving Cracow.
