Lilian Hamilton was the daughter of Archbishop Malcolm Hamilton of Cashel in Ireland and his wife Mary Wilkie. On 30 December 1655 she married John Maclean, 1st Baronet Duart [SSNE 1631] in his second marriage. She died a few years later and was buried on 4 April 1658 in Gothenburg.

Governor Johan Rosenhane, whose diary from the 1652-61 period is published, travelled with the king and council to Gothenburg in late March 1658. His entry for 4 April 1658 simply states: "Begroffs Macklers Fru mäst alla aff Rådhett och adeelen fölghde lijkett upp" (Maclean's wife was buried, attended by most of the council and the nobility).
