Catharina Maclean was the daughter of John/Hans Maclean [SSNE 1631] and his first wife Anna Gubbertz. She has been erroneously called Christina in some sources. She was born in 1631. On 14 December 1651 she married Colonel David Sinclair [SSNE 3503], who was ennobled in Sweden as Sinclair of Finnekumla. He died on campaign at Warsaw on 18 July 1656. Catherine then married Major General Malcolm Hamilton [SSNE 2605], baron of Hageby, who died in 1698. She was an active member of Gothenburg Christina church. On 13 July 1668 a Mrs "Colonel Chatarina Maglier" stood as godparent at Major Kromman's son's, Gustav Wilhelm, baptism along with Gustav Maclean and Gabriel Spalding and Mrs Anna Margareta Gordon. On 22 July 1668, Catharina was godparent to Jorgen Schwartskopf's son's, Casparus, baptism. Catharina was also godparent at Cordt Brunjohan's son's, Gustav Carl, baptism on 5 June 1674. Finally on 7 April 1691 Catharina was godparent at Captain Crusen's daughter's, Catharina, baptism. It was presumably this Catharina who freighted goods to Hamburg in 1673. Catharina herself died at the age of 75 and was buried in Gothenburg at Christina church on 8 August 1709, leaving children by both husbands. There is a painting of Catharina in Bo, Närke.
