Lorentz Clerck was the son of Admiral Hans Clerck [SSNE 4160] and Brita Svan. He was born on 14 May 1653 and studied at Uppsala with his little brother William in 1659. He joined the army in 1670. In 1696 he was lieutenant colonel of the Kalmar regiment and in 1700 he became colonel of the Jonkoping regiment. Clerck became a regional governor in Osterbotten in 1706 the same year he became major-general, served at Thorn/Torun in Poland in 1703 and ended up as commander in chief of the Jonkoping regiment.
