Sir Alexander Livingstone was the son of Thomas Livingstone and Miss Edmond, a daughter of Colonel Edmond/Edmund from Striling. He joined the Dutch army and served as a senior officer in Balfour's regiment by 10 May 1679. He probably returned to Scotland with the Brigade in 1688-92. On 1 September 1693 he served as Lieutenant-Colonel in the Cameronian Regiment and lived until 1718.
