Colonel Alexander Colyear was the son of David Colyear [SSNE 5039] and Jean Bruce of Airth. On 22 November 1661 he became captain in Scott's regiment. By April 1673 he became sergeant-major of Grahm's regiment and within 3 months he also acted as adjutant-general to the Prince of Orange. On the 1 January 1675, Colyear took over one of the Scottish regiments. He was created a baronet in February 1677 and appears to have served on until his regiment was taken over by James Douglas in February 1680. He had 3 sons who all served in the Scots Brigade. Alexander died on 3 February 1680. See
