Alexander Hume [later Campbell] (1675-1740), 2nd Earl of Marchmont, was the eldest son of Sir Patrick Hume of Polworth and took the name Campbell after marrying the heiress of Campbell in Cessnock in 1697. He shared his father's exile in the Dutch Republic between 1684-1688 during which time he studied law at Utrecht University. See his entry in the DNB.
