Charles Campbell was the son of Archibald Campbell, 9th Earl of Argyll and Margaret Stewart, daughter of the Earl of Moray.He served with the Presbyterian refugees in the Dutch Republic in 1685.See Sir James Balfour Paul, The Scots Peerage (8 vols., 1904-1911), I, p.367.
