Captain Peter Anstruther served in Colonel William Stewart’s regiment when it came to Holland in 1578. He either came straight from Scotland or had come from Danzig with the regiment. He took obligation in March 1579 and served at least until 1581. Wood reports that a Peter Anstruther, Captain in Flanders, died in 1589. If this lineage is true, he was the son of John Anstruther of Anstruther and Elizabeth Spens of Wormiston and had several brothers in the Garde Ecossasie.
He is aid to have been killed in 1589, although mention is made in 1593; "et du Capn Anstruches quinze mille cinq cens soixante deux florins"
