Walter Shairp served as a captain of the Scots Fusiliers in the Low Countries in 1696-97. A letter survives to him from Colonel Row from March 1696 giving thanks about encouraging news about recruiting and the numbers of recruits to be expected from Scotland. He had apparently become Colonel of the regiment by 1709. He was married to Janet Dalziel. See NAS GD30/730 AND 1729; D.
