Sir Thomas Livingstone, Viscount Teviot, was the son of Lt. Colonel Thomas Livingstone [SSNE 4983] and Gertrude Edmund [SSNE 8039], daughter of Colonel Sir William Edmond [SSNE 8019]. Thomas began his military career as an ensign in his father's company. He was appointed captain on 19 July 1673, sergeant-major on 5 December 1678, and lieutenant-colonel of Balfour's regiment on 16 February 1684. He had spent most of his life as a soldier in Dutch service. In December he took over command of the Royal Scots Dragoons (Scots Greys) and served in the Scottish campaign of 1689-1692. He commanded the Dutch forces at Inverness and defeated generals Buchan and Cannon at Cromdale. Livingstone was appointed Major-General and created Viscount Teviot in 1696. He commanded the brigade in the Netherlands in 1697 and later became Commander in Chief for Scotland. His final promotion to Lieutenant General came in 1703. He died in 1711.
