Archibald Pitcairn (1652-1713) was born and died in Edinburgh. Between November 1691 and February 1694 he served as Professor of Medicine and Practical Medicine in Leiden University. It is still possible to identify some books of his personal library.

C. A. Siegenbeek et. al. (eds.), Album Scholasticum Academiae Luguno-Batavae MDLXXV - MCMXL (Brill, Leiden, 1941), p.118; C. Smout, 'The European Lifeline' in G. Menzies (ed.), In Search of Scotland (Edinburgh, 2001), p.133. For Pitcairn's personal library, see the article in Russian by Vladislav Stasevich, 'How to identify books from the library of Archibald Pitcairne', available at https://rasl.academia.edu/VladislavStasevich
