Adam Stuart was born in Scotland in 1591 and died in Leiden in 1654. He spent several years teaching Philosophy at Sedan, and at some point spent time living in London. His name first appears regarding new appointments at Leiden ca. March 1635, at which time Stuart was living in Paris, and then reappears in May 1643. He was Professor of Physics and Metaphysics in Leiden between 2/8/1644 until his death in 1654. In 1644 he also taught Philosophy. In May 1647 he was instructed not to teach anything of DesCartes' learning, despite this there appears to have been some kind of trouble in his class in February 1648.
