George Wardlaw was born in Scotland in 1600 and served as a pikeman with captain Henrik Muschamp's company of recruited Scottish troops in 1625. He became a sergeant in 1630 and was then a private with the lifeguard. Wardlaw became a reformed captain with field marshall Johan Baner in 1633. He was then made a captain of a company of German soldiers from 1636-8 before being reformed with captain with colonel Sperling. During this period he would have served at the Battle of Wittstock. He also participated at the Battle of Leipzig in the regiment of Matthias Forbes (being wounded in the battle). He participated at the conquest of Wolgast and was them made a reformado captainIn in the Narke and Varmland regiment be the end of 1642. At some point he became a major. He died in 1670 after 42 years in Swedish service. Wardlaw married Anna Forbes [SSNE 1567] from Aberdeen and they had three sons, including Captain John Wardlaw [SSNE 4820].
