Robert Bennet was the son, or grandson of the Scottish officer James Bennet and Christina Kinnemond (daughter of the Scottish colonel, Thomas Kinnemond). He served as a cornet in the Åbolan cavalry regiment after apparently serving in the British navy. He died unmarried in 1700 at Rönneberga.
