John Lichton was laird of Ullishaven, Montrose in Scotland. He came to Sweden and became a major in the Åbo area infantry regiment of Finland in 1632. He had already married in 1628 Catherine Guthrie [SSNE 6264] in her first marriage (the 2nd was to Edward Johnstone in his 2nd marriage), the daughter of Major Robert Guthrie of Hummelsund [SSNE 4679] in Borgå. He left that same year to become lieutenant colonel of the Tavastehus and Nyland cavalry regiment in 1633. He died in 1636 at the battle of Wittstock. Their son Robert [SSNE 2939] became a royal councillor and 'president' of Åbo court. He was naturalised and ennobled.
