Andrew/ Anders Boij [from the Gaelic, Buidhe?] was the son of Henry Boij, a commandant of a Scottish fort who married Elisabet Nisbeth. Andrew immigrated to Sweden and became a tradesman in Stockholm. NB there is some confusion about the surname Boij given the prevalence Willem Boij, a Dutch sculptor/stone mason also active in Stockholm around this time.

In 1632 Andrew Boij became a councillor in Stockholm.

In 1646 an Andrew Boij was listed as responsible for fixing the holes in the wall for his property at Köpmangatan (no number given).

Andrew Boij is listed as attending the Riskdag as a 'herredagsman' in 1652, 1650-60, and 1660.

Andrew married Maria Grooth and with her had notable children, including Ingrid Boij [SSNE 6596] a mining complex owner, Anton Boij [SSNE 4771] who was ennobled and Jakob Boij [SSNE 4943] who became a commissioner in the Kammarkollegium in 1674. Five of their children were baptised in Nikolai Kyrka in Stockholm between 1636 and 1648.

From the Prussian account books, we know that Andrew Boij lent 2,000 RDL to the Swedish army in Prussia during the campaign of 1657-1658.

In 1663 Andrew Boij became the mayor for buildings and community for Stockholm (byggnings och ämbetsborgmästare).

Andrew Boij died in January 1668.
