Thomas Menzies was the son of Alexander Menzies of Balgownie. He served in Sweden as a captain and in 1654 he came to Russia with John Trail and was promoted to lieutenant colonel. He was mortally wounded in battle with the Poles and died in Chudnov, Ukraine in 1660, although Henry Gordon [SSNE 6541] apparently rescued him during the battle along with colonel Daniel Crawford. He had two sons.
