Text source

George Leslie has been erroneously noted as a Capuchin friar in Archangel during the seventeenth century. In fact he worked in Germany. Leslie was born near Aberdeen, the son of two protestants: James Leslie of Peterstone and Jane Wood. He entered the Scots College in Rome in 1608 and returned to Scotland via London as a missionary in 1623. Leslie was accused by the Scottish Privy Council of holding Catholic masses and left the country and returned to the continent, being appointed guardian of the friary at Montegiorgio in 1631. He returned to Scotland in 1634 and died in his mother's house in Aboyne in 1637
