Robert Hume was mentioned as Captain Robert "Hoim" at a muster of Alexander Leslie's regiment in Moscow in 1632. He was promoted to lieutenant colonel during the Smolensk war. In 1633 colonel Matheson in his will bequeathed to Robert his "satin suit, scarlett cloake and best sword".
