James Gordon (1668-1722) was Patrick Gordon's second son. He entered the Tsar's army as ensign, studied at Memel and Douai. In 1689 he was badly wounded at Killiekrankie. In 1690 he returned to Moscow, where he was captain in his father's regiment at Butyrsky, which he later commanded. In 1700 he was captured by the Swedes at Narva, but he escaped and fought in the great Northern War. Became a brigadier and a count of the holy Roman empire.D.
