William Stewart listed as an ensign in David Drummond's [SSNE 2396] regiment in 1627 and is probably the same as William Stewart listed as a reformed lieutenant in James Ramsay's [SSNE 3315] regiment in 1629-31. This is probably the same as the William Stuart who is lieutenant colonel and chief of an infantry squadron in 1635, and then a cavalry squadron in Stettin that year. Stuart's Regiment of Horse consisting of 200 men formed part of the reserve of the 1st line at the Battle of Wittstock in September 1636 and it was most probably this man's regiment. Stewart went on to serve under Alexander Leslie in the British Civil Wars
