William Nisbeth was born in Scotland in 1596 and immigrated to Sweden in 1627. He became an ensign in the lifeguards in 1628. Later he was promoted to captain in the Upplands regiment in 1630. He was still in the Uppland regiment in 1641, and the following two years he was in colonel Gabriel Kyle's infantry regiment. He served as a regimental quatermaster in 1645 and became a major in 1646. When King Karl X got married Nisbeth was responsible for preparing 5 companies of his men to attend the royal wedding in 1654. In 1657 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. He died on 21 July 1660. Nisbeth married Christina Gray [SSNE 6260] who died in 1654. He then married Anna Bollja who later married Thomas Erskine, a cavalryman. He had two sons, Carl [SSNE 1728] and Wilhelm [SSNE 3199]. Wilhelm was ennobled.
