Johan Jacob was the first son of Johan 2nd Baronet Maclean [SSNE 4205] and his wife Anna Margareta Gordon. He was baptised on 19 October 1670 in Gothenburg and succeeded to the baronetcy on 15 April 1696. He served in his uncle's regiment, Macklier's, as a lieutenant from 15 May 1691 and becoming a captain on 28 November 1694. He died unmarried on 19 March 1697 at the age of 26.
