Text source
John Lyall was a Scottish officer in Swedish service. He was an ensign in regiment in 1629. He is probably the same man as the John Lyall who was a captain in Alexander Leslie's [SSNE 1] regiment from 1630 and then served in John Ruthven's [SSNE 191] regiment from 1631-2 where he became major. Monro notes him as lieutenant colonel by 1632Swedish Krigsarkiv, Muster Roll, 1629/19,20; 1630/35,36,38; 1631/22,24; 1632/31; R. Monro, His Expedition with the worthy Scots regiment called Mackeyes (2 vols., London, 1632), II, List of the Scottish Officers in Chief.
