James Lundie sered as a lieutenant with Patrick Kinninmonth's recruited regiment in 1635 where he was promoted to captain in 1636. In 1646 he was commandant of Erfurt. The following year he was stationed in Bremervörde where his position as commandant became formalised by Karl Gustav Wrangel in August 1648. His service continued into the 1650s and In 1655 he served as a lieutenant colonel of recruited infantry.
