Text source

Elias Hamilton was born in Sweden in 1675, probably the son of Elias Hamilton de Guischery, commandant in Maastricht and Johanna Maria von Bommert, ennobled in Sweden as Silfvercrona. Elias junior enlisted as a musketeer in the 'Livregiment till fot in 1691', and eventually became promoted to lieutenant in that regiment. He was captured at Lubow in December 1711, and returned home in March 1713. Hamilton was again promoted, and again captured in 1716 at Wismar. He was released again, served for a while as captain and then left service in September 1719 with the rank of Stadsmajor in Kalmar. He married Anna von der Leith in 1707 and had numerous children with her. If the parentage for this soldier is correct, he had a sister called Catharina [SSNE 6426].
