Jacob Duwall was the son of Evert Duwall and was born in 1681. He began his military service as a Musketeer in the Life Guard. He appears to have joined at the age of 12 in 1683. He later became a sergeant by 1695 and a Drabant/Ensign by 1700. By 1708 he was Adjutant-General. Duwall served as a Colonel of the South Skane cavalry in 1712 but died in Bender that year.
