Karl Gustav von Erskine was second son of Alexander von Erskine [SSNE 1508]. He served first as a captain in BK Wangelin's dragoon regiment, then lieutenant colonel with his infantry regiment in Hungary. This unit was taken over by Mauritz Vellingk in 1686. In 1688 Erskine became colonel and chief of a recruited infantry regiment. This Regiment saw service as "Erskin's Swedish Regiment in Holland" between 1689-1692.
