A Lieutenant-Colonel Coningham served under Frederick Hamilton [SSNE 1184] in a Scottish-Irish regiment originally raised for James Marquis of Hamilton [SSNE 1348] in 1630-32. Cunningham commanded the regiment in an attack against Bremersford but his men were caught in the open by Pappenheim. The author of the Swedish Intelligencer noted that "The Regiment being most Irish and Scots, used to wading and night marching: came flouncing through the Bogs and By-places, and recovered safely into Boxtehude". This may be the same man as Lieutenant Colonel William Cunningham who served at the same rank in Alexander Gordon's [SSNE 2499] recruited regiment in 1635.
