Patrick Crafoord began his military career as as a faltvabel, or NCO in the Lifeguard, before becoming a lieutenant in the Kronoborg regiment in 1684, where he finally served as a lieutenant captain. Patrick was born on 9 August 1644. Throughout his life he received many farms as a reward for his service, and this is recorded in a corpus of letters between himself and King Karl XI. These letters reveal that the king knew and liked the man. A 16 page protokoll exists from a court marshall in Vaxjö in the early 1690s in which Patrick is seriously criticised for letting his subordinate recruiting officers employ rough tactics in the course of their duties. He was found guilty and fined 40 rixdaler. Church records reveal that he married Magdalena Rosenbielke in 1690. Thereafter the couple had a couple of sons, one of whom, William Patrickson, served as lieutenant captain of the Kronoborg regiment.
