James Bogg served in Edward Johnstone's [SSNE 2734] Scottish and then the Tavastehus Finnish infantry regiment in the 1640s for which he received two homes in Finland through 'arftligt fralse' on 25 May 1650. He was ennobled upon production of a document of his Scottish noble ancestry in 1652, and introduced into the Riddarhus the same year under nr.521. In 1655 he enlisted again in the army and became a corporal in the 'adelsfana' rising to the rank of a lieutenant in the Nyland infantry in 1657. During the Scanian Wars Bogg served as a captain in the Tavastehus infantry at the Pernau garrison between 1677-9. Bogg left military service in 1683, and died in 1690. He was married to Elisabet von Birkholtz and they had three sons and one daughter.
