Lieutenant James Butler served in Samuel Cockburn's [SSNE 4219] troop in Swedish service which were sent to Russia during the 1614-16 campaign against Poland-Lithuania. He is probably the same as James Butler [SSNE 6450] who was captured and entered Polish service and headed a troop of 500 Scots at Moscow 1617-18.
