Alexander Lindsay, First Lord Spynie was the fourth son of David, Tenth Earl of Crawford and his consort Margaret Beaton. Lindsay married Dame Jean Lyon, daughter of Lord Glamis, widow of Sir Robert Douglas and Archibald, Earl of Angus. Together the couple had the following children: Alexander, Second Lord Spynie [SSNE 177], Anne, who married Sir Robert Graham of Invermay and Margaret who married John Erskine of Dun. Lord Spynie served as Vice-Chamberlain in the Stuart Court and he accompanied James VI to Denmark and Norway between 1589-90. From 1592 he also served James as a Privy Councillor. In 1590, Lindsay was given the Barony of Spynie for his services to James VI. He eventually died in 1607.
