PRO, SP/75/2; G. M. Bell, A Handlist of British Diplomatic Representatives 1509-1688 (London, 1990). On his journey to Denmark in 1600, Swale was accompanied in his position as commissioner by Dr Richard Bancroft and Dr Chridtopher Parkins. On that occassion they were sent to treat with Danish commissioners at Emden in relation to commercial matters. Swale had not been knighted at the time of this mission.
