John Knight was a mariner who commanded the ship Katten on the Danish expedition to Greenland in 1605 under the command of the Scottish admiral, John Cunningham [SSNE 1497]. Alexander Leyell [SSNE 1137] served on that voyage as Knight's. Another important Englishman with them on the expedition was the experienced explorer James Hull [SSNE 1316] who served aboard Cunningham's own ship Trøsten.
