Sir William Temple served as an 'English' envoy to Sweden with Berkeley, Hyde and Jenkins, though the meetings took place at Nimuegen. In 1666 he was envoy to Brussels and made baronet and had some connection with Brandenburg-Prussia that year. In 1668 he effected the triple alliance between Great Britain, the Dutch Republic and Sweden aiming at the protection of Spain from French aggression. He resided in Ireland when not serving abroad.
