With more than fifty members of staff the School of History at the University of St Andrews is home to one of the largest groupings of historians in the UK.

St Andrews has a longstanding reputation in particular for research in Medieval, Scottish and Reformation History and in recent years has also further developed existing strengths in the history of France, Germany and the Middle East.

In addition to these concentrations and with such a large pool of historians from which to draw, the School of History also has demonstrable expertise in areas ranging, for example, from seventh century Armenia to twentieth century British culture history and from language in Roman Britain to late Imperial Russian liberalism.

The School of History frequently acts as host to visiting academics who participate at our regular seminars and conferences or who come to St Andrews for longer periods of research.  The School is also home to a large and international post-graduate community.
