Thesis Title: Advertising in the English news market in the early eighteenth century
Supervisor: Professor Andrew Pettegree
I am primarily interested in the expansion of advertising in the British provincial press from the development of early regional newspapers at the beginning of the 18th century until the battle of Culloden in 1746. Through studying the nature and volume of newspaper advertising, I hope to better describe both the businesses of provincial printers and the complex trade networks that existed between towns and cities across Great Britain, Ireland and the colonies.
