Thesis title: The Fenland Houses During Stephen's Reign
Supervisor: Professor John Hudson
My thesis research focuses on monastic houses in the Fens during the reign of Stephen (1135-1154). I am particularly interested in Ely, Peterborough, Ramsey, Thorney, and Crowland. Despite the houses' geographical proximity, their recorded experiences during Stephen's reign differed widely. I am interested to see what records of lands gained or lost can tell about the houses' relationships to other tenants-in-chief, subtenants, and to the politics of the day.
